Perhaps it’s a combination of all two. Held at the iconic Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, the race is famous for dramatic moments, last year’s thrilling victory for Max Verstappen in challenging conditions, expectations are once again sky-high.

Montreal offers a unique blend of European charm, vibrant culture, and outstanding food.

Friday’s action delivered plenty of headlines, with Mercedes emerging as the team to beat. George Russell stormed to Sprint Pole with an impressive lap of 1m13.026s, leading a stunning Mercedes front-row lockout ahead of rookie sensation Kimi Antonelli. The result capped off a positive start to the weekend after Mercedes arrived with a significant upgrade package that generated optimism throughout the paddock.

Before the on-track sessions began, much of the conversation centered on tire performance and the possibility of changing weather conditions. Engineers and drivers faced plenty of uncertainty as they worked to understand the latest low-downforce configurations.

Sprint Qualifying was not without drama. Fernando Alonso triggered a lengthy red flag after locking up and hitting the barriers, forcing repairs and bringing his session to an early end. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen endured a frustrating day, struggling for balance and managing only ninth place.
