Ferrari Roars in Miami as Leclerc Sets the Pace
The streets of Miami came alive with speed and anticipation as Ferrari delivered an eye-catching performance during the opening practice session of the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. Under the blazing Florida heat, Charles Leclerc topped the timesheets with an impressive lap of 1:29.310, signalling that the Scuderia may finally be ready to challenge at the front once again.
Ferrari arrived in Miami with a series of technical upgrades, including the much-discussed new rotating rear wing nicknamed the “Macarena.” The innovations appeared to work immediately, with Leclerc looking confident and aggressive around the demanding circuit. Close behind him was reigning world champion Max Verstappen, who finished less than three tenths slower for Red Bull Racing.
Oscar Piastri secured third place for McLaren, continuing the team’s strong momentum this season.
The second Ferrari, driven by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, ended the session in fourth place, giving Ferrari two cars inside the top four and reinforcing hopes of a competitive weekend. Meanwhile, Mercedes also showed strong pace, particularly with rising star Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who impressed with fifth fastest time ahead of teammate George Russell.
Despite Ferrari’s promising speed, questions remain over their consistency, especially in Sprint qualifying where rivals still appeared stronger on the straights. Adding to the uncertainty is Miami’s unpredictable weather forecast, with rain and possible thunderstorms threatening to shake up the weekend.
One thing is certain: Formula 1 fans are in for a thrilling battle between Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull under the lights of Miami.
